Midnight show at Kopec's 4-26-2012

Me and RJ went to attend a small show at Kopec's Bar where Midnight was headlining with four punk band openers.  The show was pretty awesome and pretty cramped.  But Midnight was amazing and since they're just from around the border in Ohio I hope they stop through Pittsburgh again soon. All pictures from Kopec's Bar.

Here are some late pics from the In Solitude, Devil's Blood and Behemoth show myself and RJ attended.  The show was pretty killer.  Everybody put on a good show, even though we had to leave part way through Behemoths set.

Overkill - Electric Age

On Tuesday March 27th the latest Overkill album was released upon the world, which of course meant a trip to FYE.  This album is a great follow up to 2010's Ironbound, which was an amazing release.  They haven't done anything crazy like try to incorporate harps or sing about mollusks or any other strange thing metal bands have tried over the years. Just the same, good ol' pissed off sounding Overkill.  The album starts off with an appropriately named track called "Come and Get It."  The song kick off with some guitar work that builds up for over a minute before the riff kicks in and then finally Bobby makes himself known.  At about 3:30 there's this chanting/echoing noise that starts with mimicking guitars that is different for Overkill, but I like it.  The next sound, "Electric Rattlesnake" is my favorite song on the album.  It's so good.  There's a riff that starts up at about 2:55 that I wish would go on for three minutes.  I don't think it's possible to listen to it and not bob your head.  The next two tracks "Wish You Were Dead" and "Black Daze" are also very good.  The whole album is great but the one curve ball they throw is at the very end on "Good Night."  The song starts off with an acoustic guitar, which threw me off for a second.  There are some pauses in the playing where I kept waiting for the electric guitars to come in, but it takes about a minutes and fifteen seconds before you hear any.  But overall I really enjoy Electric Age and I pray that they come to Pittsburgh to support it.

Van Halen concert 3-30-2012

Van Halen hit up Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh on March 30th, 2012.  Two important things happened.  First, they didn't break up before the show and second, they didn't break up during the show ( although, during a song Dave did yell at a crew member who was down in front of the stage, apparently doing something wrong.  "Hey man, get off you ass! These people paid for tickets!").  So a bunch of people must have had their fingers crossed.  But they put on an amazing show.  It was awesome to see Eddie casually recline back on the couple of steps in front of the drum set and solo like crazy for three or four minutes.  The only bummer, and this certainly wasn't the bands fault, was that our seats were in the nose bleed section.  And my camera died halfway through the show.  But other than that it was a terrific show and I hope they decide to come back around soon.
